bluemoonstudiotheater, inc. was founded in july of 2005 by eric martin , harmony france, derrick trumbly, and leah morrow, four graduates of columbia college chicago. the company was founded in order to provide a serious environment for young theater artists in chicago to grow, learn and perform. we began by presenting our first performance group, blue moon cabaret, in a successful 5 month run at davenport's piano bar, an acclaimed cabaret performance venue. through the cabaret we were able to raise money for other ventures and provide valuable stage experience for both accomplished and aspiring actors and singers, expanding their repertoire and challenging them to a more intense form of theater. as well as being a valuable tool to the singers, our cabaret has become a powerful tool for aspiring musical theater directors to get experience without the immense time committment a full production requires. blue moon cabaret continues to perform and has branched out to exciting new venues. after blue moon cabaret was up and running, we began to run comedy/improv workshops provided for free to the public, sponsored by our burgeoning comedy/improv troupe blue mooners! our workshops provided a valuable training ground for all levels of comedy artists to watch, learn, and help one another in a veritable playground that combined master class style training and free for all fun. following the success of blue mooners! we began our solo performance series, solo in blue. the series is dedicated to furthering self-exploration through solo performance and giving valuable experience to those interested in the style. each show has a unique cast and is performed "guerilla style" at kate the great's book emporium. bluemoonstudiotheater, inc. retains its close ties to columbia college chicago and encourages students of columbia to take advantage of their environment. the company continues to attend columbia events and performances in search of promising new talent, as well as providing a free performance of many of our productions for the students and faculty. |
Weird Romance History has taught us that love can exist anywhere, under the most unlikely circumstances. And love can penetrate anything – including alternate realities and surrogate bodies, and can survive seemingly insurmountable obstacles, high-tech pitfalls, and the unknown future. A science fiction musical that falls squarely into the cult category has come to Chicago for fourteen performances only at Strawdog Theatre.
